The Drama Desk Awards ceremony was held on Sunday evening at Town Hall where the best of Broadway, off-Broadway, and off-off-Broadway gathered to celebrate another successful year of theater in New York City. The Public Theater production of the Broadway-bound musical Hamilton walked away with the award for Outstanding Musical, the first time an off-Broadway production has bested its Broadway competitors in the category since 1983, when Little Shop of Horrors nabbed the prize. Hamilton earned an impressive total of seven awards, including three for its creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who took home trophies for Book, Music, and Lyrics.
